The honorees were personally selected from the community nominations by teen girls participating in the Girls Inc. Women’s History Project. At the event, honorees’ stories are told through the eyes of the girls who selected them. Each year, the breakfast is a very inspiring event and stands as tribute to the spirit of the first woman to seek the democratic presidential nomination, Shirley Chisolm, who described her self as “Unbought and Unbossed”.
Last year’s event sold out weeks in advance so get your ticket today!
The first through third graders in Girls Inc. of Chattanooga’s after-school programs at Hardy and Harrison Elementary Schools will be presenting an art exhibit, the “Me and My Hands” Project, to the public at CreateHere this Saturday, March 27 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
During the project, the girls were asked to think about their hands and what they will use them for in the future.
Ultimately, they painted model hands as artistic expressions of their future ambitions. Local artist, Judy Britain, helped plan the project and guided the girls through the designing and painting of their hands.
These hands, along with other art projects by the girls and a unity mural by the girls and their families, will be on display at the event.
The project was funded by an Arts Build Communities grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission through Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga as well as an arts grant from Target stores.
For more information on the project or to RSVP to the event, contact scolbert@girlsincofchatt.org or call (423) 624-4757 ext. 104.

On Saturday, November 14, 140 parents, their teens and agency health care representatives attended Girls Inc.’s Town Hall Meeting – Parents to Teens and Everything in Between. Attendees were inspired by presentations by the teens and Dr. Michael Warren, Medical Director, Governor’s Office of Children’s Care Coordination.
Following the presentations, the group broke into separate breakout sessions of parents, girls, boys and agency representatives to talk about the importance of parent and teen communication to reducing infant mortality. The sessions were held to encourage communication between parents and teens about reproductive health, risky behaviors, choices and personal safety.
Girls Inc. of Chattanooga would like to thank everyone who helped make this event a success. We are proud of our IMPACT teens for all of their hard work and are grateful to the Governor’s Office of Children’s Care Coordination for funding IMPACT for two years. Please stay tuned for a new funding announcement for the program and what’s next for the IMPACT students.
